Mid-Year update from your friends at Old Dominion Animal Hospital

Greetings Old Dominion friends and family,

What a warm and long summer season we’ve had in Central Virginia! We hope your family has enjoyed the sunshine, warm weather, and longer days together. While we appreciate the slower pace of summer, we must admit that fall in Central Virginia is our favorite season. The crisp, cool weather, changing leaves, miles of mountains to hike, brisk farmers’ market mornings, and the return of vibrancy to Charlottesville as students return to Grounds make it truly special.

We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for nominating and voting us Charlottesville’s Best Veterinary Hospital in Best of C-ville for the third year in a row. We are deeply grateful for your support and the community’s recognition. Reflecting on the past 42 years, we are incredibly thankful. We began humbly as a one-doctor practice with Dr. Chuck Wood in 1982, and have since grown to an eight-doctor, two location practice. This achievement is a testament to your trust and support. Thank you for being a part of the Old Dominion Animal Hospital family.

In other exciting news, we are thrilled to welcome Dr. Emma Winstead to our Charlottesville location. Dr. Winstead, who was born in Virginia but raised in Venezuela, Egypt, Germany, and Greece, fell in love with Charlottesville while earning her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Virginia. She went on to receive her DVM from Tufts University in 2019. Since then, Dr. Winstead has worked with both wildlife and domestic species. She completed a rotating internship at an equine hospital and spent much of the pandemic working with cats and dogs in private practice in Virginia Beach. Most recently, she has worked with a marine mammal rehabilitation facility in California and a hospital for native wildlife here in Virginia. Dr. Winstead is excited to return to Charlottesville as part of Old Dominion Animal Hospital. She is especially passionate about caring for geriatric pets and has interests in ophthalmology, diagnostic imaging, and general surgery.

With every hello, comes a goodbye. Dr. Donna Manley will be leaving Old Dominion Animal Hospital at the end of August. Dr. Manley has been an integral part of our practice and we will miss her tremendously.

We wish you and your family a fall season filled with memories, adventures, happiness, and health.

Warm regards,

Dr. Garrett Wood
