Dr. Emma Winstead was born in Virginia, but raised in Venezuela, Egypt, Germany and Greece. She fell in love with Charlottesville while earning her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Virginia. She went on to receive her DVM from Tufts University in 2019. Since then, Dr. Winnie has divided her time between wildlife and domestic species. She completed a rotating internship at an equine hospital, and spent the bulk of the pandemic working with cats and dogs in private practice in Virginia Beach. Most recently she worked with a marine mammal rehabilitation facility in California and a hospital for native wildlife here in Virginia. She is excited to return to Charlottesville as part of Old Dominion Animal Hospital. She is especially passionate about caring for our geriatric pets, and has interests in ophthalmology, diagnostic imaging, and general surgery.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Winnie maintains a love for the ocean, hiking, horses, and her tripawd pup, Echo.
