In August we honor national “Check the Chip Day” on August 15th. We may have missed posting on the 15th but we can’t stress enough the importance of microchips and keeping your pet’s information up-to-date.
Why is it important?
Microchips are a saving grace for pet owners, should their four-legged family member get separated from them. Many times, pets will lose their identification tags and be brought into local shelters or veterinary hospitals. Microchips allow for quick reunification with families. However, microchips are only successful if their information is up-to-date.
How do I update my pet’s microchip information?
To update your pet’s microchip information you’ll need their microchip number to create or update an account with the chip’s manufacturer. Your veterinarian should have this information, however, if they don’t you can ask them to scan your pet for their chip number.
What information is needed?
Most microchip companies ask for your name, address and phone numbers to assist in reunification.
